Boarding:

Horse and human partners that lack or have lost confidence are helped through our Confidence Training program. Challenges are presented in a positive manner that promotes curiosity and not fear. Equine Life Solutions offers a 5-14 day assessment of your equine partner during which he or she stays as a guest at the stable. The assessment process includes a comprehensive evaluation that identifies the origin of the fear that has lead to the loss of confidence. Humans are encouraged to participate in order to learn techniques, problem solve, and grow in confidence alongside their horse.

Confidence Building

In our experience pain and confusion are the main causes of resistant or oppositional behavior in horses. Pain and confusion cause fear which causes fight or flight responses in horses. These responses look like bucking, bolting, biting, kicking, striking, and/or rearing. Through this behavior, horses teach us the necessity of clear leadership roles within the human-horse relationship.

We work with horses to build or rebuild the confidence necessary to minimize fear and confusion. And we teach their human partners to establish clear and consistent communication and strong leadership skills.

Behavioral Help

Mutual respect between equine and human partners is emphasized in all our training programs. While force, fear and intimidation are commonly used to train horses, at ELS we build confidence through trust and communication. By teaching personal space concepts to the human partners, horses learn boundaries and become less anxious or bossy. Cooperation through good leadership starts with techniques in consistency and fairness. The three “T’s” taught are Tools, Techniques & Timing. Horses learn quickly and become less resistant as new skills are learned in a low stress environment where the positive is promoted and rewarded.

Training:

Many horses have been brought to ELS to correct oppositional behaviors that are often symptoms of physical pain or confusion. Some common causes of pain are poor saddle fit, chronic or acute injury, or age-related arthritis. At ELS we first assess a horse for pain before addressing the confusion or fear. Many times the assessment and treatment eliminates the confusion and fear, thus the behaviors disappear. During the assessment period a plan is proposed and the client is actively involved with any decisions before treatment begins.

Our rehabilitation team consists of:

When confusion and/or fear (and no pain) is the cause of oppositional behaviors, we use proven natural horsemanship techniques to assess where the communication breakdown occurred. We work with the horse first to eliminate the fear and confusion and then with the human to partner the two back together.
