Instructor Robyn Smith: Raised in and around Seattle, Robyn's been involved with horses and
ponies since 1969 when she got her first two Shetlands. Riding rodeo games on QH/TB crosses (including bareback barrel racing)
and riding some of the best cutting horses as a teenager in Okanogan exposed her to the Western Discipline of riding while
developing in her the extreme balance needed to compete at such sports. More recently, Robyn has ridden Endurance, Competitive
Trail, and Dressage.
Robyn's deep appreciation for horses led her to Natural Horsemanship, which she views as the most comprehensive way of
communicating and being with horses. "I wish I had known then what I'm learning now," she says.
Robyn's philosophy is simple: "No matter what saddle you put on your horse, or what style of riding you choose, Natural
Horsemanship is the foundation training that includes relationship building in ground work and riding a balanced, independent seat.
The tools and techniques learned through Natural Horsemanship, combined with a balanced seat, create a willing, interactive equine
partner. This creates a safe and fun experience for both horse and rider."
Robyn has successfully rescued, fostered, and adopted more than 25 horses in 20 years -- starting young horses; rehabilitating
ex-Race horses, Eventers, Hunter-Jumpers, and more; and placing each animal into a loving home that appreciates Natural Horsemanship
as a life-long journey. Robyn's favorite saying is "The horses have been my greatest teachers and grade my performance in the end."
As a Registered Nurse with a background in anatomy and physiology, Robyn emphasizes the importance of balanced riding in Natural
Horsemanship training: "Students learn far more about riding as an art form through feel and the mechanics of motion."
Robyn is an experienced and active trail rider.
